Welcome to
Harraby Catholic Club

Set in the heart of Harraby is Carlisle's most exciting hot spot; the Harraby Catholic Club, renowned throughout the North West for it's warm welcome, superb facilities and fantastic atmosphere, "The Club" as its many friends refer to it, provides a thriving centre for entertainment, enjoyed to the full by its many members, visitors and guests.  Can you believe that this modern, well designed building, enclosed by spacious grounds, began its life in a wooden hut?

The Catholic Club was born in 1968 as a Parish Centre for Christ the King Church.  The old, wooden hut, was a hub of activities from the Brownies to Bingo Nights to Boxing.  It soon spawned the legendary Christus Rex football club, home to well known city footballers such as David Geddes and Robin Turner (Ipswich), Jimmy Kelly (Manchester United and Vancouver White Caps), Alister Cook (Aston Villa), Bobby Rutherford (Leeds) and Grant Holt (Norwich).

Many of our current members can still look bak on unforgettable Christmas and New Year celebrations in that hut, surrounded by family and friends - a tradition that carries on to this day.  In its infancy "the Club" even boasted a concert party known aptly as "the Chancers", who brought fun and laughter to the places other concert parties would not dare to go!

The Club soon outgrew its humble beginnings, indeed, so popular were its St. Patrick's Night dances, another renowned Carlisle landmark, The Cosmo was hired to host the crowds who knew that a night of entertainment provided by the Catholic Club, was an event to be remembered.

It is now the time to look beyond the little wood hut and embrace a vision for the future .......

The 1970's saw important developments in the growing reputation of "The Club" as a sought after venue.  In October 1973 a new building was opened, blessed by Bishop Pearson in the presence of the Mayor of Carlisle, not only did it offer vibrant and varied entertainment, it also attracted the very best the world of sport had to ffer.  The vision of the management brought to Carlisle such well known names as Cliff Thorburn, Terry Griffiths, Dennis Taylor and Joe Johnston, Bobby George, Bob Anderson, Alan Glazier and John Lowe for exhibition matches, tiered seating was installed for spectacular sporting events to accommodate the many fans of televised snooker and darts whose starts could be seen and enjoyed only at the Harraby Catholic Club.

With the support of the local community, the dedication of its staff and the foresight of its leadership, it continued to grown and prosper over the next two decades and has now become one of the largest Clubs in the North West of England with a membership of approximately 2700.

In 1999 the accommodation was again refurbished to provide two full size snooker tables and in 2007 a beer garden with outdoor heating and a covered roof was built in order to accommodate the conditions brought in due to the Smoking Ban.

The Club has firmly established itself as the number one choice for a range of social occasions and offers facilities that are second to none and welcomes you with the very highest standards of service and enjoyment.

The continuing success of the Harraby Catholic Club is a monument to the spirit and dedication of the people who built it from a wooden hut and work tirelessly to create what you see today.  It is now a number one choice for your celebration or evening out, with a programme of events for every taste and every night.
